Welcome to the living history group of Wirhalh Skip-Felag (part of the Regia Anglorum society). Our group, and indeed the society of which we are part, endeavours to recreate the life and events of Britain that occurred approximately 1000 years ago.

The society as a whole covers the period 950 to 1066 AD, although we are known to go outside these limits. Between these datelines, times were turbulent in the British Isles. The land hosted many peoples, from Anglo-Saxons to Viking raiders, Danes and Norse, Cymry and Normans. Their cultures were rich and varied, and Wirhalh Skip-Felag attempts to portray this through the events and shows that we undertake. Wirhalh Skip-Felag focusses on the Wirral Vikings, as they were the inhabitants of the Wirral Peninsula about 1000 years ago, although we cover other groups like our parent society.

Our primary aim is to be authentic, and we will not portray any item or action that we cannot back up with a contemporary reference. Our members spend much effort, time and money getting it right, and in reality, this is much of the challenge (and fun) of re-enacting the crafts and customs of our ancestors.

The group regularly puts on demostrations and shows for the public, both as its own group, and as part of the national events organised by the parent society, Regia Anglorum. These allow us to convey our passion for the subject and to provide an educational experience for onlookers, that is entertaining as well (shows often culminate in the re-enactment of a battle!).
